Let’s go somewhere else
Inspired by Rick and Morty
This project was a commissioned gift designed to celebrate a couple’s shared love for the world of Rick and Morty. The brief was simple but fun: capture that signature high-energy animation style while making the final piece feel playfully personal.
While the illustration leans into the show’s unmistakable art style, I wanted to do more than just replicate a look. I reimagined the couple’s likenesses through my own creative lens, placing them in a custom-built world—an alien landscape brimming with strange flora, radiant minerals, and a perpetually twilight sky.
Though the setting is surreal and expansive, it captures something deeply intimate: a single, quiet moment in their boundless journey through the cosmos.
Building a planet from scratch.
Every great illustration needs a solid foundation. I kicked things off by sketching the horizon and mapping out the composition—positioning the portal as a nod to the show’s iconic key art, while making sure the couple stayed the true emotional and visual focal point.
Once the layout felt right, I started building out the environment. I wanted to give the planet its own personality, so I spent time shaping the strange flora, radiant gems, and distant mountains under that perpetual twilight sky.
These elements were refined through precise linework to add structure and clarity, giving the world that polished, finished feel that really brings the whole scene to life.
